On Friday, NBA 2018-19 MVP and Milwaukee Bucks All-Star, Giannis Antetokounmpo unveiled his new logo when he showed off his new signature shoe, the Nike Air Zoom Freak 1.
Created with Nike’s Global Identity Group, Antetokounmpo’s new identity combines his family story and Greek heritage. His primary mark features an interlocked “G” and “A”, with the “A” purposely larger to represent that his family comes first. The maze-like negative space in the logo reflects Greek key patterns to signify his family’s path from Nigeria to Athens, Greece to Milwaukee. The bottom left corner of the triangle-shaped mark is clipped off to imply that Giannis is different, a nod to the Greek Freak.
Along with the primary mark, the Greek Freak also unveiled his own typography and three tertiary marks, including a “34” that plays off of Greece’s flag.
